Why Beaverton parents choose a pediatric-first dental office

A child’s dental visit shouldn’t feel like something to survive. It should feel like a place where a small person is talked to, not talked over. That idea shapes everything we do at Bien Dental, from how we say hello to how we explain each step before it happens.

Short answer: Bien Dental is a pediatric and family dental office at 18355 SW Alexander St in Beaverton, Oregon. Dr. Hsu, our pediatric dentist, cares for infants, children and teens, and Dr. Jovan Gvozden welcomes adults, so parents and kids can find a dental home in one place.

Built around kids first

Our main focus is children’s dentistry. Dr. Hsu is a pediatric dentist, which means care is planned around growing mouths, changing teeth and the way children actually experience the world.

Friendly for the whole family

Not every family wants three different dental offices. Parents and grandparents can be seen here too, so the grown-ups can care for their own teeth while the kids feel at home.

Two dentists, one calm approach

Dr. Hsu leads children’s care. Dr. Gvozden brings decades of clinical experience to general dentistry. Both work at a gentle, unhurried pace and explain before they act.

Kids’ dental care, from first tooth to teen years

Whether you’re looking for a first checkup or a plan for a busy teenager, these are the places most families start.

What your child’s first visit looks like

The first appointment is mostly about getting comfortable. We move at your child’s speed, and parents are welcome to stay close.

  1. Say hello. We start with a friendly conversation, and we ask you about your child’s health, habits and any worries.
  2. Look around. Kids can see the room and the tools, and hear what each one does in plain, friendly words.
  3. A gentle exam. Dr. Hsu counts teeth, checks the gums, and looks at bite and jaw growth.
  4. Cleaning, if your child is ready. Some children happily hop in the chair. Others need a visit or two to warm up, and that is completely fine.
  5. A clear plan. You leave knowing what we saw, what to do at home, and when to come back.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit when the first tooth appears and no later than a child’s first birthday. Earlier visits tend to be simpler, calmer and more about coaching than treatment.

Parent tip: Keep the words simple and upbeat before you come. “The dentist will count your teeth” works better than any talk about needles or drills. Our first visit guide has more ideas.

Adults and families are welcome too

Our name says it: we want everyone to be well. While children are our first priority, Dr. Gvozden provides general and family dentistry for adults, including exams and cleanings, tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, extractions and dental implants.

If you’re dreading your own appointment because of a rough experience years ago, say so. A quieter pace and a lot of explaining is how we like to work anyway.

For parents who worry about the dentist

Plenty of parents carry their own dental anxiety and hope their kids don’t inherit it. We understand. You know your child best, so we ask you to tell us what helps: a favorite stuffed animal, a need to see everything first, or a preference for parents to sit close.

We explain treatment before we do it, we never dismiss a child’s fear, and we’ll talk through options with you, including care for kids who need extra support. Have questions about your first visit? Read our new patient guide, or ask us directly.
